The 205 GTI
A new post, a new category, a new car!
So, the 205 GTI. Icon of the 1980′s, renowned for it’s exquisite handling (once you’d found out about the lift-off oversteer) and one of the first hot hatches to grace our streets. Many people will talk endlessly about the Mk1 Golf GTI (a very, very good car I’m sure, and worthy of much of it’s reputation), but the 205 GTI was also a bit special. In the words of that supposed motoring God Jeremy Clarkson “… [The Mk1 Golf GTI] is what we’re going to buy, and we’re not going to change our minds unless something comes along that is demonstrably better. Welcome everyone, to the 205 GTI. … and then there was the design. Ital had done the Golf and Ital is one of the great Italian styling houses. But Pininfarina is better, and Pininfarina had done the Peugeot.”.
